For Sama plot

"An intimate and epic journey into the female experience of war."

This documentary tells the story of Waad Al-Kateab during five years of the uprising in Aleppo, Syria. During this period she falls in love, marries and gives birth to a daughter, Sama; all this while the conflict around her grows increasingly fierce. Her camera captures stories of loss, happiness and survival, while Waad herself struggles with an impossible choice: whether or not to flee the city to protect her daughter's life. However, fleeing means giving up the fight for freedom, for which she has already sacrificed so much.

One heartbreaking, horrific scene after another. There are so many that you end up just going through them just like that woman in the movie who seems immune to death when she cynically, derisively, talks about all the weapons her president can use to kill her.

The most poignant and never seen scene is this one with the newborn child who seems dead and really can't be seen. This was supposed to represent a person. What a misery.

All in all, an original documentary, unfortunately with a horrific reality that only causes disgust for all those who bear responsibility and blame for this.

A very strong and gripping documentary, although you could rather call it a digitally visualized diary of the Syrian civil war in Aleppo seen from the heart of the population. Raw, hard, degrading ... not suitable for sensitive viewers, but something that gives you a lump in your throat. Shameless and utterly ruthless as Russian fighter planes bombard densely populated neighborhoods.

Images are often jerky with that hand-held camera, but in this case also often show the chaos in the struggle for survival. I read above that they (population and the world) used to support Assad. Well, dogen seems to be a better word. Sometimes the decision is made that a dictatorial power provides more stability and false peace than the eviction of that man, resulting in a lot of chaos and instability (just look at Libya, Iraq and co). I'm not arguing that they should let Saddam Hussein and Gaddafi settle, quite the contrary, but the world is more complex than that...

I also saw a documentary with a population that tries to survive at all costs in difficult circumstances, never gives up, keeps hoping for a better future. The resilience and resilience of people is great...

Particularly impressive because of the very close-up view of life in East Aleppo, during the hopeful period of revolution as well as afterwards during the siege.

You don't learn too much about the (complex) political context and the motivations of the revolutionaries.
