You're broken, Mandy!

I know!

A film with such a cast, and nobody (well, almost nobody) has seen it, voted on it, and I am the first to post after 7 years. How is that possible, you might ask.

Perhaps the easiest answer is that the film was caught between a rock and a hard place by Covid. But it isn't exactly an 'easy' film either—and by no means in any respect, for with her narrative, Piper seeks no support or sympathy from any party or group in the eternal struggle between man and woman. She figures it out herself, and that is precisely why the film is ultimately all the more worthwhile. Even those messages that don't easily fit into a box are worth listening to—although we must remain wary of the overwhelming pressure from what calls itself unheard, but actually fits very easily into a box and has no added value whatsoever.

Piper directs herself, and there too, she never takes the easy way out. It is a shame that she apparently didn't enjoy it very much, as this is her only director credit so far, even though she pulls off quite a good job in my opinion—a film like no other, with a huge cast walking on eggshells, including a David Thewlis who would be almost unrecognizable if his voice were different. And Lily James in a delightful but very, very small supporting role—that may be the only disappointment, as I had expected a little more from her. It is nice to be surprised every now and then.
