De Beentjes van Sint-Hildegard plot
Jan has been married to Gedda for 35 years. His wife loves him so much that it makes him anxious. Jan escapes overcare when he ends up in a nursing home. Jan seems to be able to find his own voice again among his demented inmates, and thanks to a doctor friend he leaves the back door as a free man. But how long can he flee his wife?

See. Too much meddling can lead to Alzheimer's . But Jan has even more fantasies in store, which leads to a hilariously comic film with plenty of room for more subtle humor and dialogues in addition to the absurdities.
There's also the drama involved, of course. Some people don't realize that, however well-intentioned, they "include" others and unfortunately things are easy to change, people on the other hand...

Still a fine Dutch film about the suffocating straitjacket of Jan's marriage. His wife may well mean it all, but does not realize how much she limits Jan in his being and thinking. It's just a shame that he only found out after 35 years. Perhaps the click has to do with the death of his father-in-law.
Very nice scenes here and there, funny and tragic at the same time, like the urologist or the daily household chores that seemed so annoying. His creative solution may seem doomed to fail, but saving his father-in-law just seemed very noble to me.
Great ending also where the woman realizes that she went too far, but also realizes that she is so normal and there is no other way for her. Most scary character surely that Erik or does it unconsciously play along that it this is about a man and so I look at it more negatively? Not quite sure yet...

Let's take a few serious incredulities for granted (Gedda who does not see how much her mothering goes over the border, Jan who does not express his dissatisfaction in a different way, Gedda who does not realize that Jan is simulating his very sudden dementia[ /spoiler]), but then you also have something: a beautiful tragicomedy about misalignment within a relationship with subtle and sometimes painful humor ("But I only wanted a cookie!") and a sublimely hypothermic Herman Finkers.
