"There are no limits to a mother's love"
Sarah has recently been widowed after her husband was stabbed. Today she is raising her son Ben alone. To her horror, the authorities do not open an investigation into her husband's murder. One day she meets Tito who carries a criminal past and drags her into it. Sarah wants nothing to do with it, but at the same time smells the opportunity to use Tito to her advantage. She hopes to learn more about her husband's murder through him.

A nice crime thriller.
The original shooting schedule was supposed to take 20 days, but in the end it only took 16 days to complete shooting in Northern Ireland and Belgium. The apartment of the main character Sarah was built on a set in a studio in Belgium. The cast is well put together. Sarah Bolger was the only right candidate for director Abner Pastoll. This after he had read the Emelie script. The film features cameos with the children's real mothers. The script does not shy away from using some foul language and scenes. For example, young Macie McCauley was taught to use the word "bitch" for a single line. However, she kept repeating this throughout the day, until finally she forgot. Even director Pastoll felt a little uncomfortable with the attempted assault during editing. Especially when Sarah Bolger's agent came to visit the set on this day. During the decapitation scene, a cheap prosthetic head with little hair was used. This because of the budget. Andrew Simpson's haircut was therefore a conscious choice. The actor was obviously less happy with this result.
For a small independent film with a low budget, this has become a nice end result. This while I didn't have high expectations from the start. Nice to see how the main character Sarah develops from a mother who wants to stay out of crime, to a female Leatherface from The Texas Chain Saw Massacre . This with the ultimate goal of avenging the death of her husband and getting her normal life back on track as a mother.

A grim crime film in which Sarah, a timid widow and mother of two, at one point loses her spirit after she stabs her attacker during an attempted rape and carries him off in small pieces. She then goes on the path of revenge by giving her husband's murderer a good beating. The setting in Northern Ireland works in itself, in a gray Belfast where petty and not so petty crime is rampant. The acting is reasonable, and at times the film goes quite hard, for example when Tito is sawn into pieces. But at many moments the film didn't really work for me. And mainly because I didn't really believe any of the characters. Sarah's transformation from a shy woman who doesn't stand her ground for a moment to a murderous avenging angel, the cartoonish bad guy with, for example, the scene with the garbage men, and actually also the behavior of the authorities, it was all not that convincing. A bit run-of-the-mill, and perhaps more fun for fans of the genre, but for me it remains a tight three stars.
