Sang Penari plot

Young adolescents Rasus and Srintil lead a life of poverty in their small, poor village of Dukuh Paruk in the 1960s. They are falling in love with each other. Srintil is blessed with her dancing moves which are said to have a certain magic. Many elders believe that Srintil is destined to be a 'ronggeng' (first dancer), meaning she belongs to the whole village. This makes Rasus feel robbed of his love for Srintil and in desperation he leaves the village to join the army...
