A funny mix of Quentin Tarantino with a Guy Ritchie-like style. And it's almost like they're making fun of the John Wick movie. The latter is a film that perhaps takes itself just a little too seriously. Polar, on the other hand, is 100% black humor and is rock hard. If you like it, have a look. I think it's a nice snack, but John Wick is just that little bit better.

Very nice.

The comparison with John Wick is understandable, Polar lives in a similar world, but the effect is completely different. Where John Wick tries to maintain some style and seriousness, Polar is mostly crazy and over-the-top. Much more my thing.

Åkerlund is also doing well, although it must be said that he cannot last 2 full hours. The second hour is just a bit more brave, while I was just waiting for a completely smashing finale. Probably also has something to do with the side plot of Hudgens, as far as I'm concerned it could have been completely removed.

A few funny bad guys, grotesque violence, black humor. It reminds me a bit of the action movies that were hip about 15 years ago (Shoot em Up type, Running Scared, Domino and such). Åkerlund comes close, but in the end it still misses a few moments that are really about it. 15 years later, this may have become a bit too good and expected.

But since there's a dire shortage of these kinds of movies, I'm not going to complain too much about them. Very amusing, please do a second part. Perhaps with a director who is just that little bit better suited for it.

3.5*

Even better than I expected, Mads Mikkelsen plays the action hero role almost to perfection and interfaces with John Wick are quickly made. The poster alone, of course, but also the plot partly corresponds. Although this film also made me think of First Blood (1982) or the newer The Punisher (2004). The film also seems to be a bit of a mix of these 3 films and I liked that!

A nice pace and lots of action scenes, although I have to say that the pay-off of the bad guy at the end could have been a bit more extensive.
The film seems to hint at a part 2 and I usually don't like that, but in the case of this film it can turn out to be entertaining.

Polar may have a simple plot and a plot that is recognizable, but for an evening or afternoon full of action, the film does more than fine.
4*
