Triple Frontier plot

"You can’t go this far without crossing every line"

A group of five former Special Forces agents are reunited for a meticulously planned theft in a sparsely populated border region of South America. For the first time in their prestigious careers, the ex-servicemen embark on a dangerous mission. This time not for their homeland, but purely out of self-interest. When their meticulously coordinated plans threaten to fail unexpectedly, their skills, loyalty and morale are pushed to the limit and they must fight for their lives.

Fair, pretty standard, but quite enjoyable. Especially the last hour, from the escape attempt over the Andes mountains, I will go all the way, if only for the beautiful shots. A film with the typical Netflix disease: you have the feeling that there was more to it, but that at a certain point people were too easy-going to get it out. Few surprises other than the beautiful locations, even the early death of Affleck's character I somehow saw coming. Good actors for these roles (even Ben turns out to be acceptable acting), but they deserved a better script. Now Triple Frontier remains an action movie that swerves a bit too freewheeling, without making a real point. A movie doesn't necessarily have to contain a message, but a stronger characterization or motivation of the characters would have been a welcome addition. This could have been a nice, contemporary variation on The Magnificent Seven(five), but it now hangs too much on a level that doesn't reflect too much. Nice, but easy to forget.

Not a bad movie. It's nice that the scenario doesn't just follow the established paths, which keeps you interested in what's going to happen. Although this would also have fit in a somewhat shorter playing time. Triple Frontier looks solid, as do its actors. However, the film did not fully appeal to me. I think it's mainly because of the lack of credibility of the stupid decisions these experienced ex-servicemen make. The misery they inflict is due to their own stupidity, while it is clear that they actually know better. That gave me a "self-fault, big bump" feeling that made me not really empathize with the characters.

But like I said, not a bad movie. Just a sufficient.

Mediocre.

Remarkably tame, this Triple Frontier. While watching, I experienced the long run-up as the calm before the storm, but a storm never comes. The story of the ten little niggers - where our five went to be hunted after the robbery - does not happen. One chooses neither for a thoroughbred action film, nor for anything else. It's a bit of navigating between genres and choices.

Anyway, Triple Frontier hardly impresses as an action film, but also not as a survival film or as a character study. It doesn't really want to run loose at any point. The cast consists of well-known names, but that doesn't necessarily mean quality. In any case, no one can make anything of his role. What remains are mostly tight pictures of different locations with the potential to shoot a decent action movie.

2.5
