A bit of a dry (not humorous) and plump docu-narrative of the infamous last six months before the Brexit referendum. Not in the vein of a McKay where satire takes the upper hand. It was interesting how a propaganda machine is created and how the masses are played with half-truths and populist statements via social media, among other things. And the counterparty? Well, he stood there and looked at it ... The contrast could not be greater.

It is disturbing how certain messages are manipulated and what impact this has on an entire population. We always say that the citizen is not stupid, maybe not, but is easily influenced to have data, data and (pseudo) facts interpreted. And OK, I would have been part of the 'remain team', even though I think that the unworldly little club in Brussels and Strasbourg lacks a lot, but what can be done here can and does happen elsewhere (US, Hungary, Turkey, and so on). but by).

Anyway, I especially remember the excellent role of Cumberbatch. Never disappoints in his roles. Very strong actor. That whole campaign and strategy wasn't always easy to follow with all those politicians (beyond Farage and BoJo) I didn't know. Those finesses were somewhat lacking for me as a non-Brit. I thought BoJo was cast nicely, a tad thinner than the real version, but his mannerisms were there anyway.

A lot was also unknown and/or unclear to me, but a quick look at wikipedia already clarified a lot, and moreover, for me it was mainly about the machinations behind the scenes and the ways in which politicians and campaign managers try to piss each other off. And that while in the end it was still not clear to me whether Cummings really believed in what he was orchestrating or whether he was only concerned with the commitment that he could determine the entire strategy all by himself without interference from above. "Change is exciting," as he says to Rory Kinnear's original character in the pub, but was that his approach beforehand or just an excuse afterwards? Another great role from all-rounder Cumberbatch.

Quite small-scale production, but hits the nail on the head in terms of content.

That actor who plays Farage knows how to portray him hilariously well at times, perhaps deserved more screen time.
