Pretty cool.

Of the three Escape Room movies, this is by far the best. It's also the only one that tries to be something more than a simple B-filler, which makes it all that much more memorable. It's still a fairly classic genre film, but Robitel has put in that little bit of extra work.

It's a film with a few obvious nods towards more horror work, especially Saw and Cube, but with an escape room theme. The setup is now well known, so the course is not very surprising, even the ending can be guessed fairly quickly. But the rooms are nicely worked out and despite the fact that it looks a bit unbelievable, it is cinematic fun.

The extra finale is a bit odd, obviously they didn't wait for the public's reaction to plan a sequel. You actually get to see the first scenes of the sequel at the end. No idea if a sequel to this is really fun, but financially it will make sense.

Robitel delivers a nice video. Not terribly original, but well executed.

3.5*

Surprisingly well put together. Sometimes surpasses "Cube" at times. But it is indeed definitely not a horror film, but a 12+ nail-biter of a thriller. The unbelievability meter is not that bad and I notice that it is all thoughtfully put together, so that the film skillfully avoids a few pitfalls. The friend who watched with me is usually ready during a movie with a laundry list full of plot holes, but here he was taken for a ride.

Some escape rooms were designed great too. I loved the scene with the reverse pool bar . Never has "Downtown" sounded so sickening.

It does follow some conventions you expect, but it still remains seriously exciting and intense. The action is always there. There will be a sequel and I will definitely be waiting impatiently for it. Spacious 3.5*. For Robitel this is two out of three for me, because I also really liked his Taking of Deborah Logan.

“Survival is a CHOICE!”

Reasonable. Escape Room starts well, and in the first rooms I was still looking closely at how the characters now manage to free themselves from the predicament. But it quickly gets repetitive, and the characters aren't too interesting either. Only Taylor Russell knows how to make something of it, but it's not over. When answers are finally given about who is behind the deadly games, little of the film remains, and the tension disappears like snow in the sun.
