Tessa Young is a devoted student, a dutiful daughter and a loyal friend to her high school boyfriend. She enters her first year of college with big ambitions for her future. Tragically bad movie. Seemed like written by a 14 year old teenage girl. Almost everything is stolen from other films. And the edit was totally embarrassing. Everything had to be filled with compelling covers and all montages. Fortunately, Langford still played well (and is stunning).

Grab the cliché bingo cards from the closet. Tessa is a good mother's boy with a demanding mother - also a widow - and a loser for a boyfriend. "Trust me," she tells her mother when she moves into college campus and is confronted by her roommate. Who blows, drinks, has tattoos and is a lesbian! Everything Tessa isn't, but this characterless tuthola immediately succumbs to a little peer pressure. Nice. It is a pity that After has become such a predictable 'dramedy'/coming of age film, and you still hope that the makers of these types of films will come up with something new or original in 2020. The movie is based on a book, so maybe that's why. The fact that After remains quite enjoyable is due to Josephine Langford (the sister of), a beautiful actress who also does excellent acting. The same cannot be said of the rest of the cast.
Fiennes Tiffin is a wooden boy, and Hardin is also a walking cliché. Leather jacket, tattoos, British accent, Ramones T-shirt, etc. I only missed the cigarette, but maybe that is no longer allowed these days. That cliché goes for the entire film, and Langford deserves all the credit for the way she manages to sell it all. That I'm still looking forward to the sequel (After We Collided) is because of her. As long as she dumps Hardin and her "boyfriend" Noah (your girlfriend breaks up with you and you complain to her mother? Dump that guy, also as a friend).
