This is an incredibly creative film, often with amazement at how much effort they put into the stop motion. This must have been quite a painstaking process and that alone gives this film an edge in my opinion.

I am very pleasantly surprised about La Casa Lobo. It is a very fascinating trip through a dark fairy tale. It is a trip through the style but also through the storytelling style, which is almost childlike, with a voice over that sometimes even sings children's songs. But this work is strange and that gives this film an extra layer.

It's not an easy sit. There is a lot of constant movement on the screen, which is sometimes tiring. But it is precisely that style that makes the film unique. The makers are working hard to strip the sets and add new layers. Created art to recreate with your own art.

Of course with stop motion and fairytale I quickly think back to Svankmaier and Burton, but this is something completely different. Even more experimental, more inaccessible and sometimes a bit more playful. It's bold and it works for me.

4*

Strong.

La Casa Lobo might absolutely hit you like a pair of pliers to a pig as soon as you jump in without any prior knowledge. A film that relies solely on visual images. However, as soon as you look something up about it and perhaps even watch it again, you will see a line in it, and that creates a jet black layer over the film.

The animation of this film is beautiful. The project took 6 years and that is quite noticeable. This film was made very patiently and it shows that in a wonderful way. Very clever styles of animation that are also different from each other. The film is not long and manages to keep you interested at all times.

The story mainly depends on the underlying meaning, which actually makes the film complete. The story that is there if you don't know it is obviously weak. You could explain it in 3 sentences and then only the beautiful images themselves remain. In a way that is a shame, but also understandable to make it all work.

I did miss a bit of atmosphere throughout the film. It looks beautiful, but it never becomes creepy because the editing is not always good. There is a bit of flow missing during this film, which makes it less interesting after a while. The style cannot intrigue until the end, and that is a shame, because otherwise it is very strong, as I have mentioned before.

It might leave you sad if you know the message, or clueless if you don't. I recommend everyone do some research on the film before watching it. The film will really change with it, for the better. Strong, sad and gloomy film. Very beautifully made, for which I have my deep respect and admiration.

Nightmarish stop-motion fairy tale from Chile, beautifully animated but unfortunately somewhat abstract and monotonous in content. As if you were watching a Tool video clip for an hour and fifteen minutes. The animation, full of jerky, constantly evolving backgrounds, is truly dazzlingly beautiful. That is certainly not the problem. However, the plot and characters could have been tinkered with a bit more.
