Styx plot

Rike, a 40-year-old doctor from Europe, embodies a quintessential Western model of happiness and success. She is educated, confident, determined and dedicated. The emergency doctor fulfills her long-cherished dream by going out to sea alone in her sailboat. Her goal: Ascension Island in the Atlantic Ocean. But her dream vacation is quickly cut short on the high seas when she is stranded near a stricken fishing boat after a storm. About a hundred people are about to drown. Rike follows the laws of the sea and calls for help over the radio. When her cry for help goes unheeded, she is forced to make an important decision.

A pretty boring, monotonous film. I think the acting is okay, but so little happens, or rather, too much of the same happens. That kept me from looking interested and I wasn't very impressed. In terms of images and location, I think it looks good. 2.5*

Fairly uninspiring film about a sailing yacht floating in the ocean. No storm as the main culprit here, but a refugee boat that is about to sink, threatening to drown the lives of dozens (or even more) refugees.

It puts doctor Rike in a dilemma. I thought the opening scene was weird. OK, they wanted to indicate that we were dealing with a doctor, but that could also be communicated in another way during the plot on the boat. Now the transition (assembly) was even very sloppy. From the ambulance straight to the boat in seconds, nah!

There aren't many dialogues, of course. But Susanne Wolff did a decent job. There was also strange plot development with the drowning man who was hoisted aboard. Great depiction I think as far as his state of health was concerned: more dead than alive, hypothermic, exhausted and so on. Strange to be hopping around on the boat a few hours later. His subsequent behavior can be understood from sheer impotence and desperation. Furthermore, it all means little except for the dilemma and the attitude of third parties (that cargo ship and the emergency services) whether or not to offer help (quickly)...

An emergency doctor prepares for a peaceful holiday in a pristine nature reserve, but will experience the adventure of a lifetime that may mark her forever.

An interesting theme with the refugee problem in the picture, but it could all have been better because the film remains, especially towards the end, rather unclear.

It wasn't very good cinematically either. Both the scenes during the storm and the entry of the ailing ship are confusing and dark.

Susanne Wolff did an excellent job, by the way.
