Duelles plot
Alice and Céline are neighbors and also best friends, just like their sons Théo and Maxime, who cannot be separated from each other. This almost perfect harmony is broken when Alice has to sit and watch as Maxime, Céline's son, dies. Blinded by grief, Céline blames her neighbor for not doing enough to save her son's life. A rift develops between the two women and Alice suspects Céline that she wants revenge on her son Théo.

The meager MM average made me look with reservations at this thriller from Belgian soil, but that changed quite quickly. A film with Veerle Baetens is often in order and here too she gives shape to the character of Alice as a determined mother who tries to offer comfort and empathy to her best friend who recently lost her child.
These types of films depend on a good level of tension and this was certainly present. The paranoia was perhaps created a little too easily, but it caught on and was subtly woven into the plot. The excellent acting performances of the ladies are no stranger to this. Not everything seems logical, for example I found the grandmother's subplot a bit thin and far-fetched. Ultimately, it is also quite abnormal that there are so many fatal accidents in such a short period of time around 1 character.
Nevertheless, an excellent thriller with a satisfying ending. It could also have been handled in a clichéd way and for a while it looked like Veerle Baetens was still going to wake up. Not so and that is refreshing. Maybe a bad ending, but even in real life it is not always the bull that loses out in the arena. Nice!

Psychological thriller about the impact of a fatal accident on the friendship between two neighbors. A beautiful film until the all too intense denouement. I don't think that does the film any good. Veerle Baetens and Anne Coesens portray beautiful roles.

What particularly struck me are the 1960s interiors and how husbands and wives interacted with each other back then. Well done! Very exciting film that always makes you wonder whether Alice is paranoid or not. It's getting grimmer... I didn't like the ending...
