Nice (feature film) debut. It is really a horror comedy, something that is not yet stated here (but has now been passed on as a correction), so that came a bit out of the blue. The basic idea is quite funny; family consisting of a father who acts too young, his new girlfriend who is an alcoholic, the son cannot be serious for a moment, the tomboy sister and the son's friend who... well, actually has no personality... but in love is on the sister, ends up in a crappy cabin in the woods and turns out to be where the neighbor lives with a bunch of zombies. Everything looks very well taken care of, not only in terms of camera work (and a little too many drone shots, although fortunately of high quality), but also the entire decoration and the fairly unobtrusive but nice synthwave soundtrack.

The biggest problem is that the cast has not been able to master the somewhat wooden script. You just notice that they are written jokes that come across a lot better as text than when they are literally presented on screen. You can still solve some of this in the editing, something where the timing is completely wrong here a number of times, but it is of course a better idea to give the actors (or force them to take) a little more freedom. Fortunately - especially towards the end - it becomes quite bloody and is generally a very worthwhile introduction to Ricq, who will hopefully be heard even more in the near future.

In recent years, the range of zombie films seems to mainly consist of the same storyline. A group of disaster survivors must survive in a post-apocalyptic world teeming with the undead. Canadian director Peter Ricq takes a slightly different approach in his zombie film. His partly crowdfunded film has a fresh storyline and is fun splatter nonsense. The horror version of The Goonies, I read somewhere. And yes, there is something to it.

The film hardly builds up tension and simply consists of murder and manslaughter and is richly provided with black humor. The action is much the same, but on the other hand the effects are handmade in the style of the 80s and look beautiful. The synthesizer score also makes you feel like you're in the 80s.

There's a lot of blood flowing. The characters are exaggerated and interchangeable. The lyrics are smart and funny. Despite all this fun, over time the thought arises that the film offers too little content to constructively fill 80 minutes.

Dead Shack is a bloody cannibal-zombie-slasher mix. A mindless party snack that tastes delicious in principle but will quickly fill you up.
