1953, Union of Indochina. A Vietnamese orphan girl is hired as a maid. She goes to work on a rubber plantation. However, the girl falls in love with the landlord. When his dead wife's vengeful ghost awakens, the trouble begins.

An atmospheric Vietnamese film (there aren't many of them) about a young woman seeking shelter and work in a large mansion on a haunted plantation. Both in the mansion and on the plantation, where the souls of murdered plantation workers regularly come to take revenge. The plantation is owned by a French officer, who develops a relationship with the young woman. But numerous "ghosts" from the past stand in the way of this relationship.
Atmospheric, then, but the relationship lacks development, and the supernatural element ultimately hinders the film and its characters. The story takes place in 1953, the year the French army battles Vietnamese independence fighters, a battle they ultimately lose. But that plays only a minor role, and the film could have done more with it.
