Great film. Palpable tension, though very slow, keeps your attention. Great characters, each with their own dark story in a small setting. Great soundtrack too.

Stylish film with idiosyncratic and intriguing camerawork. Slow-moving but suspenseful enough.

Although a little more story would not have been an unnecessary luxury.

A rather gloomy and dark film from which little comes of it.

As mentioned before, Biosguru makes a point about the fact that there are very few moments where you see the actors' eyes. Poots is a minor exception, but her character is then somewhat forgotten in the development; we learn next to nothing about her. Damaged and frustrated people indeed, and that also makes it somewhat difficult to empathize or feel any sympathy for what happens to them.

The denouement is even more devastating. It's undoubtedly a tick in the box for the Wild West sense of justice; legally, I think we're talking about murder—Elwood has already put his revolver in the trunk, after all. And the ending is almost worse. Has Sam suddenly shaken off his early-onset dementia and is he back to rodeos despite that? Meh, then give him a happily ever after behind bars.
