The Trip to Spain plot

After 'The Trip to Italy', Steve Coogan and Rob Brydon's wit and appetites take them to the most picturesque Spanish restaurants. They argue about celebrities and joke while enjoying paella and gazpacho. Their comic remarks about fame and friendship are as dry as the best Spanish wine.

More of the same, no better or worse than the other two. Great that they were able to make a trilogy out of it, because it is mediocre. A lot of vanity from two comedians who are also only very sporadically funny in this third part. Those imitations are quite nice for once, but we have already seen them once and to hang the whole film on that.... Locations in Spain are beautiful, but unfortunately subordinated to the nonsense of the gentlemen. In the last part we actually get some genuine and poorly developed melodrama to process, with a nice inside joke at the end, which unfortunately makes us suspect that there is also a fourth part coming. Curious where that trip will go because the creative ideas are pretty much gone.

Reasonable film in which the two friends travel together again and visit different restaurants. As the title suggests, this time the trip goes to Spain. The setup is unchanged and the level is actually exactly the same as the previous two parts. Here and there quite funny (including a healthy dose of self-mockery) and the many imitations remain fun.

The third trip.

Content-wise perhaps a little less than the previous parts - Winterbottom apparently falls for the temptation of laughter and tears, which results in a rather ugly cliché motif in the film. And Bond/Moore is a nice target to make fun of, but on the other hand the film lacks Michael Caine and his bloody doors.

On the other hand, by far the most beautiful locations and pictures in the series so far - perhaps mainly because I have been to quite a few of the places visited myself, even if it was thirty years ago or more. That gives something extra.
