A suit and tie teacher versus a seventeen-year-old schoolboy: they are the unlikely opponents in a contemporary British battle rap, which has its roots in the American East Coast hip-hop scene. It may have been more grim there at the time, but just like then, the modern version is all about verbally impressing your opponent. War of Words energetically portrays Britain's now largest hip-hop subculture. The common thread is the preparations of rap champions Marlo and Shuffle T, who are more like internet nerds than cool hip-hoppers, for their battle against American Detroit legends Marv Won and Quest McCody.
