A hard-hitting yakuza film that should satisfy fans of movies like Scarface. For this is a pure rise and fall of a street kid who makes it to gangster leader and challenges the yakuza. It is what you might expect: lots of brutal fights, domestic violence, and, as the cherry on top, a true bloodbath in yakuza style. This is one of the more violent films in this genre that I have seen so far, filmed in a nice raw and dark style. Bunta Sugawara remains the actor par excellence in these kinds of films. This was the last of six films in the Gendai Yakuza (Modern Yakuza) series, all starring Sugawara, and also the last of Arrow's Fukasaku Box that I still had to see. Of the three films, I personally find this one the best.
