Even after all these years, it still remains an entertaining film, which in my opinion could have been 20 minutes shorter. A nice plot for an hour and a half, but more than 2 hours is really too much of a good thing.

Schwarzenegger making fun of himself is fun to watch anyway, the bad one-liners also made me laugh out loud several times. Strangely enough, this film didn't catch on with the general public at the time.

The soundtrack is also great if you like hard rock.

Continues to be entertaining viewing.

3*

OK.

Somehow, this bad movie is pretty fun. While it's clearly not aimed at the older folks, there's an amazing amount of references in it that I didn't expect from the average guy. But hey, maybe there's still some fun for the adults.

Schwarzenegger plays the roles I prefer from him here. Lots of one-liners, some humor and a role that isn't too difficult. Here he can do what he can actually do, and that's just being the action hero. He is good at that, and he will continue to be good at it.

O'Brien is quite enthusiastic, but falls a bit short in terms of acting power on a lot of moments. It's made too obvious and no sincere expressions or emotions. But he wants to show himself clearly and that succeeds a bit.

For the rest, the film never really takes itself seriously and there are some nice ideas in it. Lots of action that still looks pretty decent, but a somewhat strange structure. For example, the long action scene in the middle feels like a closing phase, and the closing phase feels like the beginning. Because of this you sometimes unintentionally lead the viewer on the wrong track.

For the rest, there are a lot of cheesy moments, and it is clear that the film has become somewhat outdated in some areas. Sometimes you should really just focus on 1 or 2 genres and not throw in elements from another genre, in this case fantasy. No focus on elements that are absolutely not necessary here.

Fortunately, film never gets boring, but it does take quite a long time for a film that doesn't offer much. Nevertheless, a pass for Arnie and the entertaining, fast tempo.

“No sequel for you.”

Nice 90s action film by John McTiernan. Last Action Hero is more of a parody of the old-fashioned action movies from the 80s and 90s, but in itself those were already movies that don't take themselves too seriously (Lethal Weapon, Die Hard). Last Action Hero therefore feels a bit redundant, but luckily Arnie is back on track. There is remarkably little to laugh about, but Arnie and the action scenes make for a film that is nice to watch.

In the 90s I saw this movie several times (including in the cinema). At the beginning of this millennium I bought it on DVD, but that was also the last time I saw this film. Until yesterday, when I gave it another look.

I must say this is not one of Schwarzenegger's best movies. Last Action Hero is way too long-winded and with a running time of 130 minutes, it also lasts at least 30 minutes too long. This is partly due to the mediocre script, which is essentially nothing more than a parody of Schwarzenegger's action films from the 80s. The jokes are all a bit more of the same. The best joke in my opinion is Schwarzenegger's name in the alternative world: Arnold Braunschweiger!

Furthermore, Last Action Hero is nowhere really startling. The film contains some nice supporting roles from Anthony Quinn and others and Charles Dance plays a nice villain role. Austin O'Brien is also doing quite well and is a nice duo with Schwarzenegger. Music artist MC Hammer also makes an appearance to remind us that this really is a movie from the 90s.

Mediocre.

Nice idea, but poorly executed. 'it can be said; no lack of winks and "odes". Sometimes nice things pass through there too. Arnold Schwarzenegger is also the perfect man for this kind of action comedy - the kind of bad movie that doesn't take itself seriously. But that kid is terribly annoying. Intended as a childish, naive factor, it is only irritation that strikes the clock. The male acts really bad, while still sharing a real lead role with Schwarzenegger.

The fact that the film now feels somewhat dated does not detract from its charm - on the contrary. John McTiernan who throws it a childish bow also remains McTiernan, were it not that I still prefer a Predator or a Die Hard. Nevertheless, well-meant in between and as far as I'm concerned, also made at the perfect moment.

2.5
