A found footage low budget B-horror/slasher(tje) that I had lying around for a while, so the horror challenge was the ideal excuse to remove it from my watch list . The story is about a group of teenagers/youngsters who decide to play hide and seek in the woods at night with flashlights, a game they call Nightlight. They don't just pick any forest, but one where youngsters go to commit suicide. And one of the youngsters decides to secretly put a camera in one of the flashlights, from which the entire film is recorded. Incidentally, the kills almost all happen off-screen. This is not recommended for the seasoned horror viewer. The quality is not great (very bad make-up and dialogues), which is why it gets a place among my 1* films.

The feature film debut of director duo Scott Beck and Bryan Woods is clearly aimed at somewhat younger viewers and Nightlight is therefore not put together with much ambition. This is not much more than a film that hopes to build up the tension and keep the viewer in its grip, but the makers do that solidly on a regular basis. A number of effective scares and solid build-up of tension are repeatedly noticeable, and the acting is also quite decent. Still, the story is wafer-thin (just like the characters) and the film introduces a ridiculous and unnecessary twist towards the end. After a while, you as a viewer wonder why on earth the teenagers are still walking around with a lead-heavy camera, since everyone seems to have their own flashlight to light the path for themselves. Narrowly insufficient because the film often cannot maintain the tension for long and only has to rely on "those moments".
