Bitter Lake plot
Bitter Lake is mainly about Afghanistan's post-war history: how the country played a major role as a pivot in the Cold War, with ever-changing political affiliations in its relationship with the United States, Russia and Saudi Arabia. A history that revolves around oil, power and Wahhabism: the influential, ultra-conservative Islam ideology that plays a major role in political relations in the Middle East. An overview that is full of irony; from Western-educated revolutionaries to neat British women flaunting Afghan hounds. A story about choices that turn out to be wrong and naive errors of judgment; a complex story in which, according to BBC documentary maker Adam Curtis, it is not enough to think in simple right-wrong contradictions.
