Uyghurs: Prisoners of the Absurd plot
In Xinjiang, a Chinese autonomous region, live Uyghurs – an Islamic people of Turkish origin. Since the area was annexed to China, they form a minority that is persecuted in their own country. In October 2001, a group of Uyghurs, who had just fled to Afghanistan, faced new, unforeseen misery there. At that time, America invaded Afghanistan to track down Osama Bin Laden and Al Qaeda fighters. The local population was encouraged to report terrorists in exchange for a bag of money. More than twenty innocent Uyghur men were delivered to the Americans in this way.
