Nice.

Wasn't really expecting much from it, but thought it was pretty good. A film that starts with an interesting story and manages to develop it properly. Not by going into endless detail, not even by focusing hard on the investigation surrounding the case, but by making the tension between the characters tangible.

On the one hand there is the tension between Hill and Franco, which managed to grab me. On the other hand, Hill struggles with himself, skilfully questioning his profession and its limits. Both stories reinforce each other, making it a good thriller as well as a critical drama.

Found Hill and Franco doing very well, the stylization was otherwise fairly businesslike but not really boring. Fairly close to the skin. The pace is slow but it gives the film the right weight and fortunately it is not stretched endlessly. Just a very solid piece of work, not an exceptional film but highly recommended in my opinion.

3.5*

True Story wants to go in depth with us, but it's all about splashing in a wading pool. And that too in slow motion.

I didn't know this movie was fact based. Then you look at him differently.
If it had been fiction, the ending might well have been that James Franco got out and took over Jonah Hill's life, and that the latter, unjustly or not, would end up in jail.
So along the way you're wondering how it ends, but my theories turned out to be far too far-fetched. So the story doesn't add up much.

What remains are two protagonists who are in very good shape and who squeeze the most out of their roles. Very nice to look at. Really such a film of the level of 5 films for 20 euros at Free Record Shop in the past and that you think: yes, that was worth the 4 euros in itself. But luckily I still have four films.
