Director Rudolf van den Berg has known fellow filmmaker Louis van Gasteren for thirty years. In each of the countless conversations they had, Van Gasteren alluded to Van den Berg's Jewish identity. They share a fascination for the Second World War, which runs like a thread through the work of both. In 2007 Van Gasteren gives Van den Berg unlimited access to his oeuvre of more than eighty films. Van den Berg forgets to ask why he was chosen as a biographer.
