Verlies Niet de Moed plot

Hella de Jonge reconstructs what happened to her family in and around the Second World War on the basis of archive material, documents left behind by her great-aunt Ro Miller and stories by her father Eli Asser. How they became aware of the danger, how they fled, how they went into hiding. How they survived or died. And how it weighed on their lives after the war was over. Also on her own: "The doctor had advised my mother to have children, to cope with the great loss." The painting of her grandmother who died in the war still hangs in the living room of her father, with whom she has always had a difficult relationship. Fragments of memory that have never been discussed before melt together in an emotional journey that father and daughter make together through places of significance in the family history. “On the return journey he said: it is as if I have been liberated for the second time.”
