"When we die on the inside, the outside is left wandering dangerously by the sea."
The mid-seventies. A couple, consisting of a former dancer and a writer, decide to travel through France. During their journey, they seem to grow further and further apart, until they end up at a quiet beach town. There they linger and get involved with the local population.

Just as Madonna's Swept Away was once negatively reviewed, which I thoroughly enjoyed, this film is also the same. I just enjoy the beautiful images, the calm dialogues and the whole atmosphere. Maybe not a very strong film. But it still managed to fascinate me.

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie in one film, that should provide fireworks. Unfortunately not. The story never really gets off the ground and just rambles on without really being interesting at all. Not much happens and this in a film that lasted more than 2 hours
The film looked good and the decoration was nice, but this cannot save the film.

29th film of the Angelina Jolie marathon!
Phew, what a terribly boring movie this was. There was nothing interesting in it at all. No surprise, no clear direction, denouement, a twist, something special. Nothing. Just a lot of meaningless boring scenes of their time in the seaside resort. I also thought Jolie was quite mediocre in it. She has a very sad voice and big eyes, but there is nothing else in it. Pitt doesn't have much to do either, but does a little better. I really don't understand why you would want to make that kind of movie.
Ultimately it turns out that she cannot get pregnant and has had miscarriages. Predictable, but also not something you can do anything with or that gives the film a different meaning or makes you look at it differently. It's mainly a lot of boring dialogue that doesn't get interesting and doesn't go anywhere. I didn't care.
Nice to recognize Melanie Laurent (whom I have only seen in Inglourious Basterds). Unfortunately, she also had little to do here.
You would almost think that this is some kind of insight into their own lives at the time. I don't think things were going so well then.
Not recommended. Only if you want to fall asleep quickly.
