Vägens Ände plot

"A Story From Latvia"

In eastern Latvia, not far from the Russian border, an old woman lives in a farmhouse that is about to collapse. There is no electricity and no running water, and the nearest paved road is two miles away. Yet she doesn't want to leave. She can live well on the income from her farm, and she doesn't mind that she has to work hard for it. She fetches water, milks her cows and goats, chops wood and keeps the house warm. This gives her time to think: about the two men in her life, about her children and about her demanding mother.
