The Ring Virus plot
A journalist discovers the existence of a mysterious video tape. When you watch the video tape, you get a strange phone call and a week later you die a horrific death. The journalist suspects that her niece died in this way and starts an investigation.

The Japanese and American success within this series sometimes overshadows the fact that a Korean variant has also appeared on the market. Due to a blockade on cultural Japanese imports, the original film could not be released in South Korea, so they came up with a version for release themselves (in consultation with Japanese production companies). Even though the blockade was lifted at the end of 1998, this variant was more or less completely completed and was therefore released anyway. The impression that director Dong-bin Kim did not take the production process very seriously hangs in the air, because the horror elements are largely removed (even the tape is turned into a kind of commercial here) and the story is a simple copy of the original. Visually it all looks a bit neater, but the well-known story is not provided with freshness, innovation and/or pace. The main characters are also extremely colorless, but every now and then there is an entertaining scene.
