Nice movie with nice gameplay and a twist that I didn't see coming, also because the possibility of that was mentioned in the beginning but was then brushed off the table ("Ah, what difference would it make?")[ /spoiler]. As for Georgina Verbaan's Golden Calf, she played excellently otherwise, but I wonder to what extent that prize can be attributed to the plot twist: after the revelation of her true identity, she doesn't actually play much differently, but the viewer suddenly starts looking at her behavior from before with different eyes. If Van Diem had shot the film "in sequence", he could have only given her the first half of the script beforehand, so to speak, and then only told her on the day of the unveiling that she was actually the murderer, and then her first scenes would in fact have been perfectly natural. On the other hand, it is also a compliment to her as an actress that she has never let the knowledge that she is a murderer "radiate" anywhere. Anyway, a great role.

Very nice surprise from Mike van Diem, who makes far too few films in my opinion, because the films he makes are above average. The solid story, including the fun twist, and the surprising role of Georgina Verbaan make this an unpretentious, entertaining film.

Once again proof that Dutch cinema is not so sad as many members of this forum want to hint from time to time.

Very well written screwball comedy based on a short story by Belcampo about a young man of nobility Jacob van Zuylen de With [Jeroen van Koningsbrugge] whose life is so hopeless that he decides to use the services of Elysium, a company that provides a special form of termination of life. All he has to do is choose a mode of death and a chest. He opts for the surprise arrangement, in which he does not know exactly when he will die and when choosing the coffin he meets Anne de Koning [Georgina Verbaan] who also has to select a coffin. The rest, you might think, you can guess yourself. That is fortunately disappointing because the Van Diems scenario is full of inventive twists and the way in which the inevitable romance develops is believable and never forced. Good work by Decleir too and there's a funny cameo from Pierre Bokma as a persistent doorman, but Verbaan deserved a Golden Calf for her flawless comedic rendition that allowed her to receive her second Golden Calf. Van Koningsbrugge is not unkind, but he is simply not Cary Grant.
