Lame.

It's something else again, I have to give Smith that. Not entirely without atmosphere either, in that candle-lit country house with walrus anatomical drawings and Parks' intoxicating stories. But also a bit without pointe or real bite.

Fairytale, bizarre and over the top are terms that you will read a lot here. I understand the first, because it is of course an extremely extra-realistic fact, although I wouldn't call it fairytale-like. Bizarrely, although I'm not really impressed with what Smith does with it. At least he's not going over the top with it.

The ridiculous fact doesn't really get any effect when Howe pays for his nearly accomplished mission with his own life. All that effort (Wallace wasn't his first attempt) to spend a few days swimming with a converted Wallace? Wasn't he looking for walrus friendship?

Both in terms of humor and horror it could and should have turned out much more absurd. Smith also strays way too much with the side plot and Depp's character. The humor was against me from the first minute (also Smith's short from Holidays still fresh in my memory), but from Mr. Tusk seemed to be getting interesting again. But the absurdity remains somewhat repetitive around the same picture and the horror never shifts to a gear that justifies the genre label. Disappointing. Perhaps Depp already suspected that and therefore remains uncredited. 2*

Tusk is a typical film where you can expect fans but also viewers who didn't like it at all. However, I thought it was a great movie. Wonderfully well-developed crazy story with good acting and similar atmosphere. Enjoyed it immensely. What a story you have to come up with it.

Reasonable.

Film that comes with a great premise, and also has the potential to make it end up well, but unfortunately places a wrong choice for comedy. It looks like 2 movies are mixed together.

But Smith is actually primarily a comedy director. You quickly have your doubts about how a film like Tusk will turn out under the direction of a pro-American comedy director. So, and that's not necessarily good.

So now you have a shocking, bizarre and disturbing film mixed with stupid and annoying humor. This is especially true in the first part of the film. It's just a bit too exaggerated and annoying. Especially Long.

For the rest, the horror is good again. A very bizarre idea, well executed. It is a pity that not the entire focus is put on this, but once it starts to get interesting, the film switches the focus on Long for the focus on the duo Osment and Rodriguez.

In addition, Depp shows up in a separate and daring, but misplaced role. Now you have a stupid comedy and a strong horror film in 1. And here it clearly doesn't work too well, it's mainly an annoying mess and also takes the really disturbing weather out of the film a bit.

Not bad, but Smith really should have made a choice between 2 genres. And then also focuses on the wrong side, the less interesting side. Missed opportunity, because it was really a very nice idea.
