Simon Pegg believes that his pal Tom Cruise is probably the last true movie star.

As Cruise is now a producer on all of his projects, he is heavily involved in many parts of the production. He is a self-confessed cinephile and was actually credited with saving the movie-going experience by Steven Spielberg after the enormous success of Top Gun: Maverick.

Part of Cruise's major appeal has been his consistency, as he has been an A-lister for 40 years since his breakthrough role in Risky Business.

Pegg has known Cruise for nearly two decades now since joining the Mission: Impossible franchise, and it is clear Cruise has made an impression.

"Of all the mist of stuff that's around him, in the centre of that mist is a generous, sweet guy who looks after everybody," the Shaun of the Dead star told E! News.

"He leads from the top down. And he's kind of inspiring to be around. There's no one else like him, he's the last movie star of the old kind.

"When I first met him, it was my first time to Hollywood. He came to set the first day we met, he immediately made me feel very welcome, very at home, was incredibly generous. Over the 17 years that we've been friends, I feel lucky to get to see a part of him that everyone else wants to see, which is just the guy."

Pegg and Cruise will next appear together in Mission: Impossible - Dead Reckoning Part One.

Tom Cruise is a one-man movie studio

Another cast member of Dead Reckoning, Hayley Atwell, recently described Cruise as a "one-man movie studio".

The British actress joined the franchise as the character of Grace, and early reviews have pointed to her performance as a highlight of the new movie.

"He’s a one-man studio. There is nothing this man doesn’t know about movie-making and the cinematic experience for the audience," Atwell told ET Canada.

"It’s deeply inspiring to find someone who is so committed to something, whose work ethic extends to so many different departments. For me, he remains a real inspiration as a professional, dedicated, enthusiastic guy, whose own success has never been his demise."
