The Matthew Perry Foundation has been established in memory of the late actor who passed away at his home less than a week ago.
Emergency services responded to a 911 call at the star's home on Tuesday and found him unresponsive. He apparently drowned while in his hot tub.
There was no foul play involved.
The news comes as a devastating blow to his family, friends and the millions of fans Friends, one of the greatest sitcoms in history.
Perry became a comedy legend thanks to his role as the sharp-witted Chandler Bing, who became a generational character. His memoir, Friends, Lovers and the Big Terrible Thing, was released towards the end of last year.
In it, he detailed his troubles with drug addiction, alcoholism and depression. He has always been a mental health and addiction therapy advocate, and that kind of work will happen at the new charity - The Matthew Perry Foundation.
"In the spirit of Matthew Perry's enduring commitment to helping others struggling with the disease of addiction, we embark on a journey to honor his legacy by establishing the Matthew Perry Foundation, guided by his own words and experiences, and driven by his passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible," the foundation's first statement read.
