When the Boat Comes In plot

A former British Army sergeant, Jack Ford, returns to the mining village of Gallowshields in Tyneside, England, at the end of World War I. His career in the military was not extremely successful and he has no other job prospects. When it turns out that Gallowshield is in financial trouble, it seems that Jack is going to have a hard time. Yet Jack always manages to end up well, partly due to his good social skills.
