The Sixth Commandment plot

An encounter between a passionate teacher, Peter Farquhar, and a charismatic student, Ben Field, sets the stage for a complex and confusing criminal case from recent history. Both Peter and Ann, a neighbor, were manipulated by Field, with the 'gaslighting' taking on increasing proportions. This series documents these activities as well as the police investigation and subsequent, high-profile trial.

Truly stunningly beautiful series that fascinates until the end because everything fits together so perfectly.

At first I thought that good old Timothy Spall would steal the show, but it is the very well cast Eanne Hardwicke who acts beautifully and largely controls the proceedings.

The merit is that the suspicion of the perpetrator and his intention arises early on, but that the further development in the story continues to keep you firmly enthralled.

The Sixth Commandment is a true crime story. Thou shalt not kill, or, more simply put: do not kill, but love. Sarah Phelps (A Very British Scandal, EastEnders) has created a powerful miniseries based on this shocking 2015 story and the sixth commandment from the Bible. The victims are the central focus of this drama.

A sublime Timothy Spall plays Peter Farquhar, a retired teacher who is approached by a student who slowly intrudes on his life. The first two episodes are excellent. Then, in episodes three and four, a police procedural and courtroom drama follows, which significantly diminishes the series' luster. Ultimately, The Sixth Commandment is a neat and typically British drama that lacks some of its grit. Nevertheless, the story of loneliness and vulnerability is frighteningly impressive.
