The British four-part drama series The Drowning tells the story of a mother (Jill Halfpenny) who sees her missing son Tom walking down the street ten years ago. The 14-year-old Tom is played by Cody Molko, son of Brian Molko, singer/guitarist of the British rock band Placebo. The Drowning has a beautiful and hopeful premise. Unfortunately, it stops there and The Drowning falls short on all fronts. The scenario is unbelievable: on a scale of 0 to 10 a 10. Is this a fantasy series after all, and will Harry Potter appear like that? uh...no. Too bad, it would make it all a lot more believable.
The acting is well-intentioned but average: the actors themselves don't seem to believe very much in this messy scenario. The plot will not appeal to everyone. And that's how The Drowning actually goes under from the first episode.
