Stille Waters plot
The village ferryman, Stan Moereels, shares a terrible secret with a man he considered his friend, Alexander Vorlat. Plagued by remorse, he is eager to vent to his stepdaughter Jana, but is unable to do so. Stan kills himself. Jana is determined to unlock the mystery surrounding his death. Alexander Vorlat, owner of the largest sawmill in the area, also has his problems: he struggles to keep his business going, leading to layoffs and security breaches. At his wits' end, he turns to his rich but perverted brother-in-law, Robert de Wezemaal, who is eager to help him.
