A couple is found murdered in their living room with their baby. The bodies are covered in blood, but have no wounds. The couple's 7-year-old daughter, Madeleine, is miraculously unharmed. However, the traumatized girl has lost her memory and cannot utter a word. Why was she unharmed? There's another troubling question: The house's doors were locked from the inside, and there's no sign of a break-in. Commander Belgarde takes over and brings in Marie Kempf, a psychiatrist who lost her own daughter, Lila, a few years earlier.
