'Shortland Street' is a soap opera whose name refers to the Shortland Street Hospital in Auckland, New Zealand. The series revolves around the complicated personal and professional lives of the hospital's employees and patients, partly set in the hectic environment of this hospital. More serious subjects are also not shunned, such as AIDS, child abuse, safe sex, cot death, alcoholism and suicide.
