La Catedral del Mar plot

The story is set in the Barcelona of the fourteenth century. Arnau Estanyol is determined to amass wealth, despite the severe adversity he faces. As a baby, he was narrowly rescued by his father from a life as a slave. Growing up in the old town of Barcelona, where a cathedral is under construction, he gets involved in the work. He soon encounters contempt from the nobility and suspicion from the Inquisition.
