Hollands Hoop plot
When forensic psychiatrist Fokke Augustinus inherits a farm from his father, he is at home with a burnout. He decides to move with his family to the Groningen countryside. The farm turns out to be a cannabis empire and is part of a criminal network. Fokke's ethical awareness crumbles, especially when he is successful with activities that cannot bear the light of day.

Especially a series of moments, because as a whole this is very over-the-top and messy. eg. that Dimitri immediately manages to get behind Fokke in the first episode and then will serve as a kind of 'home undertaker', or the fickle situations with a marriage and therapy with the pastor. Sometimes funny, sometimes brutal, sometimes that you actually sympathize, but just too often with a shrug, implausible and off the hook. The cast does a great job and the music and cinematography are often mesmerizing.
Peter van den Begin is also my favourite, numbers 2 and 3 must be Peter Paul Muller (Matthias) and the otherwise unknown Dries Alkemade (Bert), but that must also have something to do with that nice accent. That part with the 2 kampers was also very worthwhile. Finally, Megan de Kruijff seems like one to keep an eye on...
For the time being I arrive at a mild 3 stars and I remain curious about the 2nd season that is still ready here. Season 3 is also coming, in 2020 (never seen before that there was so much time between seasons)!

Dutch silliness with the brilliance of the better American series. It makes for a highly entertaining series that entertains from start to finish with inky gallows humor and exciting twists and turns. Only the ending disappoints a bit, but hopefully it will be the start of an even better sequel series.
