Hollands Glorie plot

We see the life story of Jan Wandelaar. Wandelaar works his way up from sea towage sailor to internationally renowned captain. But before that, a lot of misery still befalls him. He has to endure severe setbacks, such as being robbed by the shipowners and the death of his wife after the birth of their second son. He even ends up in jail after beating up the vice president of a shipping company. Back from prison, he subsequently founds his own successful towage company J. Wandelaar & Co. In this way he shows that he cannot be beaten.
