Hard Labeur plot

The stranger Speeltie returns from France with a group of Flemish frontier workers to a small, isolated village near Oudenaarde. He marries the young farmer Mie van Erpe and together they want to gain prestige and wealth through hard work. Speeltie, however, turns out to be a cold and violent brute who takes care of anyone who stands in the way of his ambition. When the children grow up, the tensions in the family are no longer under control.
