Interesting and colorful person I knew nothing about. Just looked up some videos of Halston, but really a top performance by McGregor. The series is certainly good and looks nice like Murphy (not over the top this time). But the story isn't very special, so it doesn't turn out to be a very special series.

Excellent mini-series about Roy Halston building a fashion empire in the 1970s. In itself a fairly standard rise-and-fall story (although the fall ended up not so bad). The main character could perhaps have been portrayed a little deeper, but this is made up for by an excellent role by Ewan McGregor. Furthermore, the whole is very stylishly decorated, and I'm not just talking about the clothes. A narrow 4.0 stars for this easy-going binocular.

Beautifully made series about a fashion designer unknown to me. Picture and sound is top notch, a lot of effort has been put into it. McGregor plays well. Story is interesting to watch, I was not bored. It's not a great story, though, in the sense that there are a lot of unusual twists and turns.
What has stuck with me most, through my own life and past, is the point that whatever the main character does in his life, he never seems "satisfied" or has found what he was looking for. Several references to his past, his childhood show that the main character really only wanted one thing, namely to be appreciated and loved by his mother. His mother who saw the special in him, found him special, loved him and accepted him as he was. I sometimes feel that myself, with in my case a mother who died almost 20 years ago. I am happy and content with my life, but what I really would like is a hug from both my parents who are no longer there.... That loss is enormous.
Oddly enough, "Halston" in the movie never makes contact with his mother, only you see him with her as an adult when she's already dead. I thought that was strange, the film didn't answer that.
So I see again, some films or series touch me because of something from my own past. This one certainly did.
