El Repatriado plot

On the day of the most important match of his life, Leonel Reina, a young Latino boxer who grew up in the US, is arrested and deported to Mexico City. Without speaking Spanish, he makes desperate efforts to prove he is American and return. But that is not easy, because he does not know that he was never naturalized as an American citizen. In a strange, picturesque setting, Leonel comes into contact with his past and falls in love with Miss Meche, a teacher. Together with his new friends, she helps him realize his dream of becoming a champion and finding his way back home.
