Superb 10-part documentary about the extraordinary performance of the Chicago Bulls in the late 1990s, starring megastar Michael Jordan. The series is masterfully structured, with a lot of artful jumping back and forth between different seasons and a great use of archive material and relevant interviews. This is really the absolute top in this area. I'm not into basketball at all, but I was breathless watching.

After an episode or two I thought it was all relatively standard (3* given), of course nice to see images from that time since I'm just too young to have seen them live. And Jordan is a name like a clock in the sports world that comes back among the biggest cross-sports of all. But it didn't seem to be more than a relatively dry summary of the man's career with the occasional friendly word from ex-colleagues, trainers, .... A bit surprised by the scores that are given here and there.

Well, another episode or two, I thought it was considerably better, intrigue, Jordan rules, systems, Jordan's character that always comes out more and more, pro tip, don't make him angry. More diverse and divergent perspectives, gambling problems, heavy deaths, ... . At this point, the documentary has already surpassed the average. 4*

And the last episodes round out his side step towards baseball, his glorious comeback(s), in the end it turns out to be a beautiful portrait of someone who lived for his sport for years, and then really lived.

Final conclusion: 4.5* and I advise the people who think it is standard after an episode or two to look further.

Extremely well made indeed, although maybe ten parts is too much of a good thing. I would certainly not recommend watching more than one part a day and due to the multitude of sporting highlights in succession, the end of The last dance does not really offer the climax you would hope for. In addition, I missed the tactics and coaching in the story a bit. But otherwise a very nice insight into the Bulls team from the 90s and especially the sportsman Michael Jordan. How competitive he is and how loyal is almost adolescent, but not in the wrong way. The images of the matches are beautiful, especially if you occasionally get some television images next to them. I don't really know why all this has been shelved for so long, is there an explanation for that?
