Covers her rise from Compton and how she stepped out of the shadow of her sister Venus to win her first Grand Slam at the age of 17. Her early rivalry with Martina Hingis is also discussed in detail. A central point is the impact of the tragic loss of her sister Yetunde Price, which led to a period of mourning and depression during which Serena dropped out of the world rankings.
