The Good Mothers plot

Set in 2010, the story begins with the disappearance of Lea Garofalo, who, together with her daughter Denise, had decided to put an end to the 'Ndrangheta mafia. In Calabria, Anna Colace, a prosecutor working against the criminal clans, develops a new strategy to break the power of the gangs. She wants to influence the female members to work together and thus undermine the power structure of the organization. A strategy that puts women first, and betrays their families, hoping for a better future for themselves and their children.

Prosecutor Anna Colace (Barbara Chichiarelli - Suburra) is determined to help the wives of the southern Italian mafia leaders with the same drive as Sarah Lund tried to solve the crimes in The Killing. And let it talk. The six-part The Good Mothers is an intense and overwhelming série noire. A strong story is sketched in pale colors - a dramatized reality - that constantly alternates between loyalty and freedom.

Do not expect the usual explosions of violence, but a continuous subcutaneous tension in which the suggestion plays with the viewer. The acting is superb, the script smooth and the photography overwhelming. The latter made me think of Zero Zero Zero. Written by Stephen Butchard (The Last Kingdom, Baghdad Central), The Good Mothers is a beautiful British-Italian co-production that celebrates brave mothers and daughters.
