Jason Lochinvar "Fatman" McCabe is a prosecutor and is usually accompanied by his old dog Max. McCabe teams up with younger Detective Jake Styles and Assistant Officer Derek Mitchell. However, McCabe and Styles often clash with each other because of their different styles and personalities.
