The Klettmann family lives in an upmarket suburb of Munich. There are no financial problems: Peter Klettmann is a successful lawyer and his wife Anna takes care of their children Vivi, Daniel and Emmi. Life seems perfect, but on Anna's 44th birthday the world collapses for the family: Peter kills his wife in a violent argument and is taken into custody. While his motive is a mystery and only takes shape by delving into his past, the children's carefree life is over overnight. Eighteen-year-old Vivi begins to fight for custody of her siblings. She is assisted by police officer Tim, who was the first on the scene after Anna's murder. He seems to feel responsible for the children and manages to gain Vivi's trust. However, the young woman does not know that Tim already knew her mother before the murder.
